LED lighting for everyone

Revox B77 and PR99 VU meters
There are no longer any bases for the VU meter lamps of the Revox B77 MK I, MKII and the Revox PR99 MKI to MK III. The availability of the glass base lamps is also becoming more and more difficult and the delivery times are exorbitant and no longer manageable!
That is why we at revox-online manufacture our own precision bases for the VU meters using modern LED technology.
So we are independent of the sockets as well as the lamps! Let's hope that the LEDs will be around for a long time!

The purpose of the new versions is:
Furthermore, to ensure the lighting of the VU meters in high quality.
As a result you get:
A balanced illumination of the VU meters, which is atypical for LEDs.
Another advantage is:
You can choose the color you want for the lighting from 7 colors and thus adapt it to your needs. We recommend warm white lighting for the VU meters!
The LEDs have a much longer service life than the small lamps.

White base

Why other black sockets or bases are used to illuminate the VU meters is a mystery to us. The black version creates an unnecessary vertical bar in the display. Our bases are all white or translucent (translucent). This is the first step in our balanced lighting of the VU meters!

homogeneous

Illumination of the VU meter.
In order to ensure that the VU meters are illuminated as homogeneously and evenly as possible, the LEDs are mounted in a radiant manner in addition to the rear wall. Nevertheless, here too the brightness decreases to the square of the distance. Here, too, the edges become darker. However, the light-emitting diode no longer appears as a point source.

play of colors

We at revox-online offer you the best VU meter lighting in 8 colors. Thanks to various measures, the illumination is even over the entire surface of the VU meter. By doing without an unnecessary circuit board and SMD series resistors (which get way too hot), we can produce inexpensively.

Series connection of the LEDs saves electricity from revox-online

Series connection

Our LEDs are connected in series.
Why are we doing this Well, the LEDs only need a voltage between 2.0 V and 3.5 V and not the 24 V of the lamps. Furthermore, only one line has to be supplied with power, which in turn leads to less power loss that is converted into heat!
Since LEDs last considerably longer than small lamps, a failure of the lighting is as good as impossible!

Without circuit board

Yes, the sockets of the lamps used to be soldered directly on. So why an unnecessary circuit board. Don't worry, you just have to plug in the lighting, everything else will be prepared and assembled by us.

Open the housing Revox B77, PR99, revox-online

Remove the device

Loosen the four rear housing screws and carefully pull the housing forward out of the housing. But be careful! Never lay the device on its front side! Slowly lever the device out of the housing - that works!

CAUTION! Pull out the power plug before opening!

Buttons

Now pull out all the knobs of the rotary switches and potentiometers. If the buttons are already off, they can be cleaned with soapy water and a brush.

Sidebars

Loosen right and left with two screws each.
Caution! The flap is mounted in the side strips and fastened with 2 springs. The feathers can jump off.

Now the lower front panel can be pulled off. The toggle switches are a bit annoying. The front panels can be removed with light switching back and forth.

unscrew. The VU meters are floating and can be aligned even after they have been reinstalled.
Caution! Here, too, springs are installed that can easily jump away.

Swap lamps

the position of the light source (filament and LED chip) are also at the same level. The black lamp socket is from the Revox A700 and is responsible for the peak display!

Equipping the connections of the VU meter lighting

connection

The connections for the lighting of the VU meters are located on the audio connection board of the Revox B77 and PR99. Here you need the two 2.8 mm flat plugs
J 12 / P 12 = 0.0 V black (sw) and
J 13 / P 13 = 21 V red (rt)
remove the lamp and plug in the replacement LED lighting.

Audio Interconnection

Now the lights of the VU meter can be removed and replaced by our lighting. All you have to do is insert our replacement into the opening of the VU meter and establish the connection.
That's it, now reassemble everything in reverse order!
